Congregation Shalom Yisrael is a Messianic synagogue located in White Plains, NY, serving the greater Westchester County, NY area as well as southern Connecticut. As Jews and gentiles together, we have embraced the belief, and proclaim, that it is Yeshua haNotzri (Jesus of Nazareth) who is the promised Messiah of Israel and the world. We believe that the prophets of Israel, beginning with Moses, spoke of Messiah. We represent a community of people who, in all spiritual honesty, intellectual integrity, and spiritual pursuit, desire to have a vibrant relationship with the God of Israel, and seek to have a warm, friendly community in which we may come and gather.
The fact is, the first followers of Yeshua haNotzri were Jews, and they believed that the very message Yeshua spoke was the message of God. For them, the miracles, healings, the very death and resurrection of Yeshua were a display of God's majesty and might. The events surrounding Yeshua were as powerful to those Messianic Jews as it was for the Jewish people who were at Mt. Sinai, when the Torah was given to Moses for all Israel. But what needs to be pointed out is that those early Jewish followers of Yeshua never stopped following Torah, never divorced themselves from their Jewish community, and never thought of themselves as anything but Jews. In their day, the very power of
God in its most profound way, the Ruach HaKodesh (Spirit of God) was revealed. It was Moses himself who said, "O that the Lord's people (Israel) were prophets and the Lord would put his Spirit on them." (Numbers 11:29) Belief in Yeshua was not a new religion, but the beginning of the culmination of Jewish desire and what was promised for the future.
Today, despite history, belief in Yeshua has not been shaken from it's Jewish foundation. That means that as Jews we are able to embrace Yeshua and live as those early Messianic Jews did. We believe that the Sprit of God that was revealed 2000 years ago, guides our steps today as well, and is the very foundation of "Tikkun Olam," the repair of the world. Tikkun Olam offers both a spiritual and physical renewal, beginning with the hopes of people. With all that faces us today, we teach that it is God who will support what is fallen, and it is God who gets the credit for what is good, the very strength of our families and the future of our children.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little of who we are, and we hope that you will visit the rest of our site --shalom!
